1. Background theory of structural dynamics for single and multiple degrees of freedom systems.
2. Time and frequency domain analyses
3. Seismic and force spectrum analyses- theoretical background and practical applications in commercial pipe stress programmes.
The topics that will be covered in this course will be –
1. Fundamental differences between static and dynamic analysis- Governing equations.
2. The concept Mass Matrix. Lumped vs Consistent mass matrices- Mathematical background.
3. Development of differential equations for dynamic analysis in matrix form- Various approaches to arrive at the equations.
4. Development of Modal equations and the concepts of Mode/Mass Participation Factors- Mathematical background.
5. The Response spectrum approach for seismic and non-seismic loads-Mathematical background.
6. Time history analysis- How is it different from Response Spectrum analysis?
7. Drawbacks of commercial pipe stress program w.r.t Dynamic analysis- Some real-life examples. Introduction to the application of Fast Fourier Transform to problems associated with random vibrations.
This course will cover basic and advanced topics from Structural Dynamics required to provide a robust understanding of the background theory behind performing Dynamic analysis using commercial pipe stress programmes.
